At the recent Northeast Telemedicine Resource Center (NETRC) conference in Amherst, MA, many attendees learned how UMASS Nursing worked with NuPhysicia to create what NuPhysicia CEO and founder Dr. Glenn Hammack called
“the best telemedicine teaching laboratory in the USA”
At the presentation “Infusing Telehealth Technology into Academic Healthcare Curricula,” speakers Jean DeMartinis, PhD, FNP-BC, Associate Professor; and Gabrielle Abelard, DNP, PMHNP-BC, Clinical Assistant Professor shared how they have successfully integrated telehealth seamlessly into their undergraduate and graduate curricula through an innovative Telehealth Training Laboratory.

The photo above shows one of the four specially built observation stations that allow faculty to privately evaluate and train clinicians in the art of practical telemedicine. These rooms connect to a range of patient-side units that convey two-way audio and video, plus hand-held scopes for direct examination, plus live stethoscope.

UMASS Nursing has put this remarkable facility, that includes patient bedside carts, portable in-home suitcases, treatment room systems, and remote provider stations, to use in the most innovative practical nursing curriculum yet developed. It gives students real-world experience with clinical telemedicine, including live remote video examinations and use of a telemedicine-prepped electronic medical record.

All of us at NuP are supremely proud of this accomplishment!
Whether you are considering a telehealth or telemedicine program at your organization, nobody can match NuPhysicia’s 15+ years experience in program strategic planning, ROI estimation, technical design, medical tool choices, implementation and training.
